As a parent of a gender-free child, as artists with lived experience, and with allies to support us, the creative team of Learn By Heart have come together with the aim to change the world for young, gender non-conforming kids. In the early stages of a three-year process, Learn by Heart is imagined to be an interactive audio experience made for elementary schools that reveals the hidden experiences of trans, enby and gender-creative students.

Intended to be an easy and affordable ‘show in a box’, Learn By Heart is an audio tour of an elementary school. You don a pair of headphones and navigate your school: the kindergarten room, hallway, washrooms, gym, Principal’s Office, library, front door, and playground. There you hear stories and experiences of kids and memories of young adults speaking of their experiences in those spaces as students. The show can be easily downloaded or streamed on any device with a pair of headphones. We aim to educate through creative means, and to give our audiences the gentle journey that allows them to learn by heart...then to come together to re-envision our schools, and what we want to create anew.
